There are tons of products on the market today and they all tend to be screaming the same things –  smoothening, moisturizing, voluminizing, color-safe and what not. It can get really hard trying to pick the right product when beauty isles are full of them.

The recommended products not only work wonders but are greatly popular and effective.

Please note: The recommendation list is limited and catered towards “great to best” from either my personal experience, comes highly recommended by other senior beauty bloggers or industry experts. I hope you didn’t come here to see 10 products per hair type – that’s what Target and other store isles are for :).

Disclaimer: I am not paid to review any of these brands.

Dry, Damaged, Coarse & Frizzy Hair

Shampoo

Avoid clear shampoos and instead look for rich sulfate free shampoos. Some of the recommendations below may not be sulphate free but they still do the work.

Recommendations:

Premium Organic Argan Oil Shampoo

Sulfate free

Number One Amazon Best Seller Since Year 2012. This gentle formula is fortified with an organic blend of argan oil, B vitamin complex, biotin and other clinically proven natural ingredients. This shampoo get lot of rave reviews for preventing hair fall too. I loved the  way it feels and smooths my frizz. However, I do not know if it does much for hair loss as I do not have that problem but it sure seems to be working for lot of people.

Giovanni

Unisex, sulfate free, color safe and cruelty free!

They  were probably one of the first ones (If not the first one) to jump on the sulphate free bandwagon. It was one of the first one that I tried and I still use and recommend this brand.

Loreal Professional

I do not believe you can buy this product in stores. This product is either available at salons or online. It smells like banana cream pie. Good quality drugstore product.

John Freida

This is a very high quality product! I am a big fan of many of John Freida’s products.

Pureology Hydrating Shampoo

I do not believe it is sulfate free(please correct me if it is) but it gets lot of amazing reviews from everyone including my hair dresser. It is on my list to try out. Hopefully soon.

Shea Moisture Shampoo

Sulfate free and color safe.

I have tried many of Shea moisture products and I am yet to come across one  I do not like. This one has goodness of hibiscus and coconut and the added moisture from shea butter.

Conditioner

Avoid anything that is not deep moisturizing. Your strands need lot of moisture.

Recommendations:

3 Minute Miracle – Very Cheap

God this is a miracle in the bottle for a drugstore product. This product is not only the best drugstore products but also puts lot of high end products to shame. This is a must have for everyone! I absolutely love it! Do give it a try – What do you have to lose for $3 ?

Please get the “moist” one(as mentioned above). I don’t like the “smooth” as much.

Neutrgena

This is another very good conditioner from this line. They do their conditioners very well!

Premium Organic Argan oil Conditioner

No sulfates and gluten free.

I have not tried this conditioner yet but it gets lot of applaud by other beauty bloggers and is a definite try on my list.

Color Treated Hair

Shampoo

Select a shampoo that is made for color-treated hair. This will add the needed moisture and not strip your hair color.

Recommendations:

Pureology Hydrating

Keeps the color looking vibrant. Even though the Hydrate ones aren’t specifically targeted towards color care, they work really well for it!

Giovanni

Unisex, sulfate free, color safe and cruelty free!

They  were probably one of the first ones (If not the first one) to jump on the sulphate free bandwagon. It was one of the first one that I tried and I still use and recommend this brand.

Shea Moisture Shampoo

Sulfate free and color safe.

I have tried many of Shea moisture products and I am yet to come across one  I do not like. This one has goodness of hibiscus and coconut and the added moisture from shea butter.

Conditioner

Select a conditioner that is made for color-treated hair. Many of these conditioners have added UV protection. From time to time I like using these even when I do not have colored hair due to added benefits.

Recommendations:

Pureology Hydrating Conditioner

I have tried this conditioner before when I got my hair colored last summer and I absolutely loved it. It made my hair very silky and smooth.

Neutrgena

This is another very good conditioner from this line. They do their conditioners very well!

Oily & Fine Hair

Shampoo

Look for thickening shampoos that have ingredients like panthenol or wheat protein.

Recommendations:

Herbal Essence Envy Volume

I wouldn’t say it is an outstanding product, but it does it’s job really well by giving body, volume, nice shine and lovely citrus smell.

L’Oreal Paris EverPure Volume Shampoo

Sulfate free and color safe

It smells amazing and leaves your hair silky, soft, with volume. It cleans very well, but is gentle enough to use every day for your fine and oily hair.

Joico Body Luxe

Joico’s body luxe line’s target is volumizing and thickening fine and limp hair.

Conditioner

Stay away from heavy conditioner in your hair because that will weigh it down.

Recommendations:

Herbal Essences

Does a very good job conditioning your hair without weighing it down.

L’Oreal Paris EverPure Volume Shampoo

Sulfate free and color safe

It smells amazing and leaves your hair silky, soft, with volume without weighing them down unlike many other heavy conditioners. It cleans very well, but is gentle enough to use every day for your fine and oily hair.

Joico Body Luxe

Joico’s body luxe line’s target is volumizing and thickening fine and limp hair. The conditioner makes your hair smooth without weighing them down.

Curly, Wavy or Thick Hair

Shampoo

Similar to dry or damaged hair types look for deep conditioning.

Recommendations:

WEN By Chaz Dean

WEN Cleansing Conditioner is a revolutionary concept in hair care. A 5-in-1 formula, this one product takes the place of your shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler and leave-in conditioner.

This shampoo conditioner came highly recommended by a very dear friend @ Spice Roots    . She has beautiful well managed curl that are totally drool worthy. So i had to ping her and ask her the secret behind those beautiful curls.

You don’t need a conditioner with this product. Also, you don’t need to apply as much as they recommend on the bottle.

Pureology Hydrating Shampoo

I do not believe it is sulfate free(please correct me if it is) but it gets lot of amazing reviews from everyone including my hair dresser. It is on my list to try out. Hopefully soon.

  1. I swear by Aussies 3 Minute Miracle!!
I use it every single time I wash my hair (which is every 3-5 days)
I also have been using Jojoba oil by the NOW company (certified organic.) I mix 1 tsp. in with my shampoo for even more moisture. Bonus is that when I rinse, the oil also makes my skin soft :)
    Thanks for sharing this list!

  2. thanks so much for this! I’m always buying new shampoos and none of them are working for me! This really helped!
